Do the opposite
To solve x + 7 = 12, subtract 7 from both sides. To solve 4x = 20, divide both sides by 4. Whatever is done to x, undo it.
Check the answer
Substitute the answer back into the equation. If both sides match, it is correct.
Make it a timed challenge
Put a visual classroom timer on the board and see how many problems students can finish before the time runs out. Print a new version tomorrow and try to beat the score.
