Best for: Grades 1–3

What regrouping means

When the ones add up to 10 or more, the extra ten moves to the tens column. 47 + 38: 7 + 8 = 15, write 5 and carry 1 ten, then 4 + 3 + 1 = 8 tens, so 85.

Two, three or four digits

“Largest number” sets the size: 99 gives two-digit problems, 999 three-digit and 9,999 four-digit.

Make it a timed challenge

Put a visual classroom timer on the board and see how many problems students can finish before the time runs out. Print a new version tomorrow and try to beat the score.
