Patterns on the hundreds chart

Moving right adds 1, moving left takes away 1. Moving down a row adds 10, and moving up takes away 10. Spotting these patterns is how children start adding and subtracting tens in their heads.

Ways to use it

  • Missing numbers: a quick daily warm-up for kindergarten and first grade.
  • Skip counting: color the 2s, 5s or 10s and look at the stripes that appear.
  • Blank chart: a great check at the end of the year — how far can they get?

Next step: skip counting worksheets and missing number worksheets.
