Along the corridor, then up the stairs

The x-coordinate (across) always comes first, then the y-coordinate (up). “Along the corridor and up the stairs” is an easy way to remember the order.

Grid size

Keep the largest number at 6 for beginners. Set it above 10 to use a 0–10 grid.

Plot points to make a picture

Ready for the next step? In coordinate graphing mystery pictures, students plot a list of points and connect them to reveal a hidden picture.

Make it a timed challenge

Put a visual classroom timer on the board and see how many problems students can finish before the time runs out. Print a new version tomorrow and try to beat the score.
