Top times top, bottom times bottom
2/3 × 3/5 = 6/15, which simplifies to 2/5. No common denominator is needed — that surprises many students after adding fractions.
Whole numbers
Write the whole number over 1: 4 × 2/3 = 4/1 × 2/3 = 8/3 = 2 2/3.
