Best for: Grades 1–2

The ones digit tells you

A number is even if its last digit is 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8, and odd if it ends in 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9. Once kids discover this, try a sheet with numbers up to 999 and watch their confidence grow.

Make it hands-on

For younger children, have them pair up counters for the first few numbers. If one is left over, the number is odd.

Make it a timed challenge

Put a visual classroom timer on the board and see how many problems students can finish before the time runs out. Print a new version tomorrow and try to beat the score.
