Best for: Kindergarten–Grade 2

Part-part-whole thinking

The top circle is the whole and the two bottom circles are its parts. If the whole is missing, add the parts. If a part is missing, subtract the known part from the whole.

Bonds to 10 first

Knowing every pair that makes 10 makes later addition much faster. Keep the largest number at 5 for kindergarten, then try 10 and 20.

Make it a timed challenge

Put a visual classroom timer on the board and see how many problems students can finish before the time runs out. Print a new version tomorrow and try to beat the score.
